Black People Don't Buy

My hands are shaking (bad knee don’t fail me now). I can’t believe I’m nervous. Am I actually going to write this? Alright … here goes… *deep breath and shout* “Black People Don’t Buy!” There I said it. Do you agree with me? Was I not supposed to say that? Before you get mad at me, let me redeem myself by saying THAT ISN’T MY POINT OF VIEW. As a matter of fact, 99% of my online customers are black BUT at the same time 99% of the Black Entrepreneurs that I consult are filled with fear or frustration BECAUSE inspite of their DESIRE to sell primarily to Black Consumers they are having a difficult time actually making sales.

We have thousands of Black Business Owners and Entrepreneurs right? And it seems like only a handful are actually making decent sales right? So can’t we logically assume that Black People Don’t Buy? Here is a quote that I seem to find one every other Black Business Website Online (including my own):

African Americans have over 700 billion dollars available to spend as they please. The most they spend with Black business is only 6-7%. (Google This quote if you like)

OK, so wait a minute! African American Consumers are spending money, we are just not buying black products? I change my quote! Black People Do Buy, Just Not Black! The solution to this issue is figuring out how to get more Black Consumers to buy Black. Right? That’s the answer right! No! I don’t think so. We’ve been trying to do that for years, and it doesn’t seem to be working BECAUSE THAT IS NOT THE ANSWER.

Black People obviously DO BUY so that’s not the problem. I think the problem is that many small black businesses and black entrepreneurs DON’T KNOW HOW TO SELL! Hopefully that statement didn’t rub you the wrong way, but I had to say it. Now am I trying to say that I’m some super genius sista with six figure sales and you can’t touch me. NO! Call me arrogant if you want, but I am an open book! Let me be THE FIRST to tell you that, I am not a six figure sista yet, but I make a good living working at home, selling my OWN Products to Black Consumers, and I get new customers every week. As I work at home mom I am living other people’s dream, so I consider it a blessing to be able to do what I do and show others how to do the same. Plus I still have work to do, so don’t think I’m in a position to judge but I am in a position to teach BECAUSE when I couldn’t rub two nickles together I figured out that if I was going to sell to my People I had to figure out how, when, and why did they buy!

All the events, advertising campaigns, and freebie giveaways don’t mean anything if you aren’t getting a return on your investment. More importantly you will always struggle with your ROI if you don’t understand how to strategically market your business. Everything you do has to have a reason, a purpose, and a desired result.

Online sales is not just about putting up a website and getting people to check out your product. You have to know how to engage your customers and that can only happen when you understand Why People Buy. I think you should charge more
