Their mindset, their fears, their bad habits and unrealistic expectations converge into these over powering alter egos that make it almost impossible for them to succeed. They get stuck focusing on the wrong things while the right things pass them by.

1. You believe that it is easy to make money online. Web Entrepreneurs with this belief generally spend more money than they make because they buy into all the get-rich quick gimmicks. They only invest in ready-made business ventures that are supposedly easy to set-up, but difficult to profit from. They only try basic marketing strategies and get frustrated when they see limited results. Making a dollar online can actually be ten times harder than making one offline, if you believe that you are going to get anything easily or for free.

2. You can’t get your business past 1st base. Creating a website and/or blog is important, but it is only the beginning. Your online business isn’t going to make money simply because you created it. You have to understand how to optimize your site for search engines. You have to aggressively and consistently market to your target audience. You have to proactively retain your old customers while making new ones. Products, sites, and services do not sell themselves. You have to make use of marketing strategies if you want to make more sales.

3. You are running in place and you don’t know it. Some people call themselves entrepreneurs, but they are really just full of ideas. They think about their businesses and talk about them so much that they feel like their working, but they are not. Turning a potential business idea into an actual business plan is the most daunting task for the average entrepreneur. An idea does not make money, but a good business can.

4. You are trying to sell something that doesn’t exist. Don’t waste your time trying to sell people a product that does not exist. I know the excitement of getting your business off the ground can often lead to promoting prematurely, but don’t fall into that trap. Don’t promote your site if it is under construction. Don’t try to sell a book you haven’t written, or a service you have yet to actually implement. Don’t focus on logos and business cards before you map out the foundation of your business. If your presentation is poor or you have nothing substantial to show, no one is going to buy what you are desperately trying to sell.

5. You operate your business in survival mode. Entrepreneurs who are in financial hardship or are struggling to make money tend to work in survival mode. They take whatever money they can get, even if it means dropping prices or making difficult compromises. If you don’t set your own standards your business will not grow. When you encounter a setback or loss, don’t cheapen your business to stay in business. Maintain your standards and invest in business solutions that will help you improve your profits in the future.
