A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending the Women’s Empowerment Expo with friend and fellow NC Women Entrepreneur Larie. For me the best part of this event was listening to keynote speaker and super woman entrepreneur Tyra Banks. I was actually supposed to meet Tyra in person at the event (Larie won a contest). Unfortunately that didn’t pan out, but I believe that if I say we will meet and I work towards making that happen; it will happen! I’ve always admired Tyra Banks as a business woman because I feel our visions are inline; she is authentic, ambitious, innovative and has a genuine interest in supporting women as I do too. She is also quite the comedian!
For the women entrepreneurs in my circle who were not at this event you are in luck because in the video above, I was able to capture a few minutes of Tyra Banks sharing 3 Essentials learned during her time at the Harvard Business School. Tyra shared a few nuggets of wisdom that I believe every business woman should hear.
#1 Differentiation
What are your goals? Think about your goals and how you are going to differentiate yourself from everyone else who has the same goals in mind.
#2 Marketing
How do you take that different thing you created and get the world to want it, buy it, see it, like it, and ultimately love it? How are you going to show the world what is different and special about you?
#3 Leadership
I agree when Tyra pointed out that anybody can be a leader and you do not have to be a boss to be a leader. Are you trying to just get by in life or are you aiming to stand out, be unique, and tap into those things that work specifically for you.
I consider myself to be a blessed woman because I’ve learned what so many women are still trying to grasp… we have the power to speak our success into existence. Tyra shared that she is where she is today because she never gave up on her dreams and ultimately never stopped dreaming. When I think about everything I have accomplished thus far its all about turning thoughts turned into action.
Listening to Tyra I see that concept exemplified ten fold. She talked about her own personal struggles and failures. She talked about the fact that for every one magazine cover we saw her on there were countless others she didn’t get on. Don’t think Tyra is so beautiful she had it easy, she is not me. She showed us there were so many times she didn’t get the job because of how she looked but that did not stop her. She showed us how eager people were to make her feel bad when she gained weight or made a mistake, but that never scared her away from trying again. Failure, ridicule, public opinion has never stopped me and it should never stop you either.
So to Tyra Banks, if you are listening I say this … myself and Larie hope to meet with you very soon because even though our opportunity was taken away from us then it won’t stop us from making it happen in the future! We are eager to learn from you and share our stories with you on how we are striving to like you, change the lives of women within our circles.
As I call that into being as part of my journey, I hope you think about those things you want to make happen for yourself this year. To that point, every woman needs solid direction, support and guidance to move forward. Just as I call on Tyra, I have women who call on me to assist them in turning their online dreams into a reality. Understanding the significance of having the right people around you to help you move forward I was inspired to host my 1st three day event, She Rocks the Web, Weekend Workshop for Women Entrepreneurs at the Aloft Hotel in Chapel Hill, NC this June!
For three days I want to work, play and bond over business with my fellow web women entrepreneurs, specifically you, if you want to learn more about how I built my blogs and online businesses and how you can become more profitable and productive online. My goal is to help a group of motivated web women get focused and get at least 5 essential things done in their businesses. I know quite a few ladies in my circle would LOVE a weekend to focus on their projects, get answers to their questions and work with other ambitious women so if this sounds like something that is right for you join us at She Rocks the Web: sherockstheweb.com.
Thank you Tyra for your words of empowerment! Enjoy this video guys and get ready to rock not just the web, but the world!
🙂
Thanks for you insight. I’m just finding out about you today
