Have you ever looked at someone else’s home and envisioned what it would be like if it was yours? Entrepreneurs do that with websites all the time. We go to other people’s digital spaces, look around and say, “Wow, I want my website to look just like this!” I hear this statement all the time either from myself or other women that I work with. Looks matter, so naturally we want our websites to be as pretty as possible BUT as a coach I often caution webpreneurs from focusing too much on looks and not enough on the one thing that really matters – the product.
You would be amazed how many entrepreneurs I talk to who are ready to create the look. They want the brand, the blog, the website, the whole caboodle BUT they don’t have any products. They are often very excited about getting their business off the ground, but businesses are not built on image alone. Basic business is all about having a product or service to sell. Creating an attractive professional image helps increase sales, but you cannot generate sales if you have nothing to sell.
This point is important if you are an aspiring entrepreneur, but you are spending too much of your time trying to build an image on a business that doesn’t exist. This is also worth thinking about if you are currently trying to drive traffic to a website or blog and your frustrated because you are not making money, but the truth is you really don’t have anything to sell. I want you to keep this idea in mind if you are spending time and money on your dream business, but you skipped the step of creating an actual business plan.

Fantastic article! I found myself in that position and had to reel myself in and regroup. It happens more often that people think.
