Really Simple Sales Solutions Part 3

As promised in the first part of this series, I am finally going to talk a little bit about strategic marketing. As I mentioned before, I never liked statistics in high school, so I hate the idea of spending time and money on random promotion in the hope that someone will buy. I like to keep the odds in my favor, which is why I believe that strategic marketing is the way to go.

I define strategic marketing as promoting your business on spaces that cater to your ideal customer. At the heart of this concept is you, because you have to first define your ideal customer. I believe that your ideal customer is a combination of the type of person you would most like to sell to and the type of person who actually buys your products. That combination is key because for some sellers, your ideal customer might not be the one that actually buys. In other words, some business owners don’t make sales because they spend all their time trying to sell to an audience that is not interested in buying their product or service. You need to think about who you want to sell to and then research your own business and the businesses of your competitors to figure out, who is actually buying what you want to sell.

When you understand why people buy and who you want to sell to, you are essentially defining your target audience. When you know your target market you can begin to strategically promote your business on spaces that cater to your target. And as you make your business more visible to your ideal customers, you increase your chance of actual sales. At that point you can begin to explore niches in your target group, to really start making more sales and making your own market.
