Entrepreneurs: You Need to Build Your Social Following

If you want people to notice you on social sites like Facebook and Twitter, beyond creating profiles and talking about interesting stuff, you have to strategically build a social following. Why? Well think of social followings as extensions of your list. When you have 10,000+ Facebook fans or 5,000+ Twitter followers you essentially have more people paying attention to your online activities. The people want to know when you’ve created something new and if they really ‘like’ you they will ‘share’ you with friends.

On Facebook someone recently asked me a big question, “Can you be anonymous on social sites?” My response is a resounding, “No”. Whether you are selling your own product or someone else’s products before anyone will buy what you sell they have to buy what you say. In other words you are a BIG part of the brand. You are the face, the spokesperson, the go-to gal everybody wants to listen to before they open their wallets and pull out that cash.

For these reasons and so many others you need to work on being charismatic, being engaging, and getting people interested enough in you to want to stick around. While I don’t have P.Diddy’s social numbers just yet, I consider myself to be a pseudo celebrity in my industry because I have been able to build a pretty nice following using social media, which in turn has helped to keep my sales steady without the need for advertising expenses.
