How to Sell Online and Create New Partnerships

In my last post, “Tweak Vs Twitter“, I really wanted to stress the importance of focusing more on basic marketing principles to improve your business and less on social marketing trends that suggest all you need to do is Tweet your way to millions. As great as that sounds, you need more than twitter to drive traffic to your website and increase your sales.

Today I want to take this discussion a little further. A few days ago I spoke with one of my close friends (we always trading marketing tips between each other) and she told me she’s got a TV deal in the works. Well when she told me that, I think I was more excited than she was especially when she said to me, “well you know I need you.” And on that note I was like, “what do you need me for?” And her response, “all the posting, and video, and SEO you talk about is what helped me land this opportunity SO I need you to help me do more of THAT! (lol)”

Giggles aside, it often takes one of these conversations to remind me that starting with the basic marketing and business principles is what every newbie needs. Before you go creating a facebook fanpage and tweeting your day away, you need to make sure your website is optimized, you’ve got a blog people actually can find and read, and you are searchable … not just the name of your business BUT the business you are in. What am I saying? I mean when people search for a product or service you provide, your website should actually come up on the first 3 pages of google. If you haven’t gotten that far yet, then you’ve got a few steps in between sales and social media marketing.
