A few weeks back when I met Lisa price at Black Enterprise I told you what she taught me about being a successful business woman today. One of the points that I want to re-share from Lisa is this this:
Lesson #5: You Don’t Have to Meet Your Mentor to Have One
She has never actually met some of her favorite mentors in person. And in many cases the people we would love to learn from are either not accessible or too busy, which means that we have to be creative. She recommended following those people you admire however you can. Read their books, watch them, whatever you can do to stay connected and informed. You don’t need to shake their hand to call them a mentor.
Oprah, Lisa Price and many women just like them keep me motivated as my (virtual mentors) in so many ways including amazing black business men like Tyler Perry. Oprah shows us that to break the mold you have to be different, be yourself, and be innovative all the time. I love how much she embraces technology via your Livestream Life Class. I love how she is embracing the new generation and their experiences seeing people like Rhianna and Jay-Z share their story on the Own Network is powerful to me. I love love love seeing Sweety Pies Reality Show on OWN, finally one of the few reality shows about black business owners in action!

My wife loves Oprah and her channel, and I have to say that’s one of the “working-est” women in the world. She’s easily earned her money and then some.
